Opportunities

Opportunities: 1. a favorable, appropriate, or advantageous combination of circumstances 2. a chance or prospect

If you don't play, you can't win.

When you are presented with new opportunities how do you react?

Are you the type of person who gets excited and jumps right in?

or

Do you hesitate, ask questions and research?

Doors are used to control the physical atmosphere, a clear marker of what stands before it while guarding what lies beyond.  However when it comes to opportunities, the lines are not quite as clear.

There is no right or wrong answer to the above questions. They merely point out personality traits.  Some people are outgoing and don't hesitate to try new things while others may become paralyzed and indecisive with fear.  In the end, the only person you are fighting is yourself and your stubbornness to engage in new circumstances.

I am a naturally curious person.   I will ask questions and peek in the windows but right before going in I will pause and listen to what my gut instincts tell me.  Either way there are lessons to be learned.

"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." Winston S. Churchill

"A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds." Francis Bacon

"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." Albert Einstein

"We often miss opportunity because it's dressed in overalls and looks like work." Thomas A. Edison

"Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back. That's part of what it means to be alive. But inside our heads - at least that's where I imagine it - there's a little room where we store those memories. A room like the stacks in this library. And to understand the workings of our own heart we have to keep on making new reference cards. We have to dust things off every once in awhile, let in fresh air, change the water in the flower vases. In other words, you'll live forever in your own private library."
Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the Shore)
